Currently there exist three Orquestras Energia in Portugal, all of them supported by the EDP Foundation and under artistic advisory of Porto’s Casa da Música.
Amarante’s Orquestra Energia is managed by the city’s cultural centre (Centro Cultural de Amarante) and is constituted by 63 elements.
Since 2010, the group has regularly participated in national and international performances, developed activities with similar projects from other cities and held intensive apprenticeships for their members.
Partners of this project have advanced regular studies and a close follow-up on Orquestra Energia, institutions such as the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian or the Centro de Investigação em Psicologia da Música e Educação Musical, from the Instituto Politécnico do Porto.
Some of the outcomes of recent studies on this kind of orchestras in Portugal, have been published in the book “Crescer a tocar na Orquestra Geração”, by Graça Mota and João Teixeira Lopes.
