Music

Amarante is meeting place to a rare combination of attributes, dynamics, practicioners and manifestations within the music field. The city has a musical heritage from which the “viola amarantina” and a relevant set of Iberian pipe organs stand out, the latter integrated in churches that hold performances of Sacred Music concerts.

It is a breeding ground for music groups, among
which are Orquestra do Norte, Orquestra Energia and several others, like philarmonic bands, choral groups or garage bands.

An unique music atmosphere is here present, shared by both professional and amateur musicians, with music festivals from a broad array of styles and origins.

One can also find an ongoing dialogue between music and the other arts, in initiatives that blend music with cinema, literature, poetry and the visual and media arts.
